Now, on to the story of ...

Marvelous Maggie!

We adopted a puppy from the Fulton County SPCA in June of this year (2002). We named her Maggie and she was only 8 weeks old when we got her. She used to fit in the palm of our hand, but not anymore. She now weighs approximately 30 pounds and is 2 feet tall. She has a shiny black coat with some white areas and some black and white spots. She has a few distinctive markings such as a white tip on her black tail and two out of four paws with white tipped feet. She was a rescued puppy from Stevers Mills Road we  were told. She was one from a litter of eight puppies. We are glad we rescued (as a good term) her from the SPCA to live a wonderful life in a loving home with two parents and two children who just adore her.

It was a trying time raising her as she is the most lively puppy we have ever had the pleasure of owning. Now she is housebroken, can shake with her paw, and speak when she wants something. Maggie acts like she is part cat; we say this because she jumps from floor to window in one leap to  look outside. She is the most vocal dog we have ever owned, too. How is it that a human can just know what she is saying? She loves to hug you by jumping up the front of your legs and wraps her long legs around your waist and then does this big, long stretch. Maggie loves to stretch. She loves to hop up our windowsills and look out the kitchen window and make sure nothing outside is happening without her.

She is the most active, loving and funniest dog we have ever owned!  This pup has a real personality! Oh, by the way, she also has one brown eye and one blue eye; which we sometimes refer to as the devil eye because she is so cute she can get away with just about anything! The blue eye was one of the reasons she attracted us to her. She was the only one of the batch to have two different eye colors. We like different dogs!

My kids are amazed as we are, too, that Maggie loves water so much. All other dogs we have owned would have run away from water that was near them, but not Maggie! You can pour a watering can of water out over her head (in the summer) and she stays put and starts drinking it and playing in it!  She was a riot with the water hose this summer!  She loves the water for sure! I am not sure about her now, jumping up to the edge of the kitchen sink staring at the water coming out of the faucet. What could she be thinking? It seems like she thinks she is human!

My hat's off to the staff of the SPCA! They were the most caring and educational staff I ever met. They were great with us. All animals that end up there will be taken care of with love and attention. We hope to go back and visit someday soon and say hello.

Sincerely,
Shelley Zajaceskowski and family and Maggie too!

Bailey Boo-Too, Rescued Ranger!

My name is Bailey Boo-Too and I was rescued from a trailer that had 70 cats and 3 puppies in it. We didn't have much food and I had an upper respiratory infection, was underweight and had ear mites. Some of my kitty friends were much worse, and one died just before we were rescued. Mama saw me at the FCSPCA and took me home.

Now I live with her and Budzo the Hound (http://www.klink.net/~linda/petpics.html). I live in Mama's antique store, where nice people pat me and cuddle me all day. I really like it here. I have a bed all my own but sometimes I sleep in an antique wash basin.  The first picture is what I used to look like; I have already put on weight and I feel much better now.

Please help the SPCA take care of my friends who haven't been adopted yet. Thank you.

Simba, the Canine King!

(Left: Simba as a pup. Right: All grown up and king of the couch!)

I adopted the most wonderful dog from the SPCA in early summer of 1998. He already had the name "Simba" and we kept it.  If fits perfectly because he has a big ruff of hair around his neck.  Simba is a mixed breed - shepherd/retriever mix we think; when we brought him home we thought for sure he was an Australian shepherd mix and we still do. He was mostly grey with black patches as a pup but now has the most beautiful coat of black/grey/tan.

He now weighs 80 pounds and has always been a very healthy dog. We took him to obedience school and he really liked that.  The training did a lot for him.

He is spoiled!!  Sleeps on our king size bed and of course, the couch.  He loves to walk and we go out walking every night.  He has one eye with a slight discoloration in it and some people call it a "watch eye."

Simba was found at the age of 3 months on Route 107, Perth area.  He is so lovable!!! He loves kids.  He is the greatest dog ever.  We are sorry his original owners never tried to find him but their loss is our gain.

Thank you for your great work.  We are thankful you found Simba and that we found him!

 -- Maggie Clark, Gloversville

Simba enjoys a bone break before returning to his job guarding the stairs!

In February 2002, Maggie sent us the following update:

Simba wants everyone to know he is still alive and well and "living
the life" in Gloversville.  He is still the greatest dog!!!!!  He'll be 4 years old this
month and in June it will be 4 years since we adopted him.  I carried him
home that day. He was just a little pup.  I couldn't possibly pick him up now,
but that doesn't stop him from trying to be a lap dog.
